If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea. Antoine De Saint-Exupery

The Art of Meditation and Relaxation

Is there truly an Art to Meditation and Relaxation
Basically you can do this

  • Find some place quiet
  • Get into a comfortable position
  • Close your eyes
  • Think relaxing thoughts or clear your mind

True ART It comes for most in finding the time to do it. If somebody with an extremely busy lifestyle can take 30-45 minutes out of their day to do some type of meditation or relaxation why can’t you. We are all given the same hours in a day.
Everybody seems so busy they don’t have time to settle down. Think of how much happier your life could be if you could slow down for maybe thirty minutes to an hour.
Find the right place It needs to be a quiet place. It could be your bedroom closet, bathroom, kitchen, outside, maybe even at work. Just find a place that’s quiet. Get in a comfortable position to sit or lay in where you can be relaxed.
Maybe you need to call it something different The word meditation may seem just to far out there. Use something that fits your lifestyle. Possibly a zen moment, prayerful meditation, a moment with god, a moment of peace, time to myself. Name the act of meditation/relaxation so that it corresponds correctly with how you live your life. This will give you more reason to accomplish it.
Once you have found a good time and place to meditate or relax, things will become a lot clearer in your life.

Simple method to change your habits

Talk about a method to change. Following a ToDo list can be easy for some. Simply take this method one item at a time. If you have an issue with one of the items change it up a little bit. Find what works for you and use that.

  • Choose a habit to develop
  • Only work on one at a time
  • Build anticipation up to a starting date
  • Commit publicly to the overall habit
  • Break the habit into 8-9 small steps
  • Choose habits and steps that can be done daily
  • Add one of the small steps each week for two months
  • Commit publicly to each step when you start it
  • Report publicly on your progress

Your overwhelming day cure is here! The Solutions

So the Overwhelming Solution you are looking for is here.

Ok, let’s say you are just completely overwhelmed right now, so what do you do to stop it?

Well, I have no clue how to keep you from being overwhelmed. Although I have some ideas that may help. The key to these ideas, and what other people say, is to take what is there and use what is useful for you. What works for me may not work for you. You need to decide if it is helping you or not.

Ok, here’s the main idea - “GET ORGANIZED / PLAN”

Sounds a little too simple. You are probably right, too simple to really make a difference.
Sometimes just getting organized and planning can be quite overwhelming.
That’s when you try and break it down into smaller items.
Then start asking yourself questions that will help you get more organized so that you can create a plan. Here are some questions you can ask yourself if you are being overwhelmed.

You can put these on some cards and pull them out when you feel overwhelmed. At least till you have them memorized or don’t need them any longer.

  • Do I really need to do this?
  • Does it need to be done now?
  • Can I do this less often?
  • Who can help me get this done?
  • Can I plan this out into smaller things?

There are many solutions to being overwhelmed. Finding the correct one can be a challenge. Try this one out for a few days. If it doesn’t quite work out come back and email me so we can talk about additional choices.

Everything has its place, where you put it in your life determines what happens next.

Part 2 - The Stories

Your overwhelming day cure is here! The Stories

There was a time when our little girl was in the hospital for a while. It was more then just a little overwhelming, the amount of things we had to do for her. The appointments, medicines, feedings, stays in the hospital for weeks or months at a time. It was overwhelming and stressful at times for me and my wife. Yet there were times when we just didn’t feel anything was too much. It was just something that we had to do, it became part of our lives.
Although we did refuse to recognize how overwhelming it was at times. I wish we would have noticed how overwhelming things were getting. These were the times when we could have used pretty much anybody’s help. We had to be strong though, at least that is what I thought. It’s at those times I wish we would have had more people letting us know how overwhelmed we were and we needed to get some help. We just seemed to busy to do anything about it.

Sometimes going on vacation can be very overwhelming. I do this and my relatives do this quite often. It seems that people always want to do a million things while they are on vacation. You want to do so many things, and to be able to organize them all along with making sure that everybody wants to do the activities you have planned.

Ok, so you have everything planned out. Sometimes it just doesn’t matter, it may be planned out but it doesn’t mean that it isn’t overwhelming. You have to work the plan for a successful vacation. Sometimes giving in to relaxation on a vacation means doing nothing. Yeah everybody says you only have one life and you need to live everyday like it’s your last. What if you are just to tired, doing anything when you are tired, frustrated or overwhelmed will probably result in bad times for all. Why put yourself and others through that. Why can’t a vacation be just hanging out at the kitchen table playing cards or a board game with some family or friends.

Simple is OK, is it not!
Times spent with family or friends just hanging out can be just as rewarding and more relaxing as an overwhelming day with 20 things on the schedule.

Everything has its place, where you put it in your life determines what happens next.

Part 3 - The Solutions

Your overwhelming day cure is here!

To Much To DO! Feeling Overwhelmed, working with some anxiety depression. Maybe you need some Stress Management, or possibly a Stress Test.

Are you being overwhelmed or just procrastinating. Not in a good way either.

I belief there are different times and reasons when you are being overwhelmed, and that the key is recognizing you are being overwhelmed, and then to figure out your way to change it.

How about being overwhelmed with to many things to do. This is the basic reason people feel like they are overwhelmed. TO MANY THINGS TO DO! Lets say you have to pick up the kids, go get groceries, help with some errands, take the car to the shop, finish up a report for work.

  • Now are these some things that could be put off till later?
  • What will come to an end if they didn’t get done?

You then use these things you have to do to keep from doing other things you need to do. Like little procrastination actions keeping you from doing something you NEED or SHOULD do, like keep the groceries coming in and being able to do important errands.

Is this being overwhelmed, or are you creating this feeling of being overwhelmed making yourself so busy that you don’t have to do some of the important things in life.

Just imagine if you didn’t have to do all those things. If only a few of them were important. Since we all have the same amount of time in a day how can we use it the best we can.

Lets say you have a list of things, say them out loud. Hear which ones are important to you now! Do those ones.

Everything has it place, where you put it in your life determines what happens next.

The most fantastic 5 minutes of your life

Sometimes it still astonishes me about how much can be done in 5 minutes. The best way to find out is get a timer and set it.

I set a timer for my girls when I want them to straighten up their rooms a little. They know they only have 5 minutes so they tend to work a little harder. There are also times when they keep going.

When I feel like writing something I set a 5 minute timer. I give myself only 5 minutes to complete as much writing as I can. Because of the time constraint it forces me to completely concentrate on what I am doing. There are times when I get to 5 minutes and just stop, other times when I am in the zone and just keep going.

Imagine setting a 5 minute timer and clearing your desk at work. You don’t have to clean everything, just enough within 5 minutes.

Try doing things 5 minutes at a time. You may find that the 5 minutes will get you started, when you finish, who knows!

What are some of the things this will help with?

  • Motivation
  • Confidence
  • Time Management
  • Procrastination

I Love Procrastinating

Procrastination, is it a confidence issue, time management problem, motivation situation or just plain Lazy.

Must things always be completed. What if you did just a little something every day. Then put the rest off. Then did a little more of it. Progress most times comes one step at a time.

Not everything has to be done right now. Sometimes the giant steps or leaps and bounds could send you off the deep end. It’s as if you didn’t look where you were leaping.

Imagine little by little, step by step, word after word. It will all get done.
When the time is right, it will be completed.

Tell a Story and Change Your Life

Ok so we all don’t know that we have a story to tell. I sure didn’t quite understand it for quite a while. I don’t remember any childhood stories being told to me. Do you? The only thing that I can think of is the people who were telling me these stories just didn’t have their heart into the story or why they were telling it.

I have recently started collecting stories, all kinds of stories. You never know when you are going to be in a situation where you can use a story to get a point across, or the conversation you are in just completely stalls out. Hey tell a story, it can get things moving again.

I also use storyjolt.com to learn quick story writing or telling, which ever you prefer to call it. It has also helped in other aspects on how I think. To tell a story in 60 seconds and then the same story in 5 minutes. Let me tell you, that is a challenge.

So what’s a story you can tell, it doesn’t have to be great, just told?
